THEATRE ATCHISON OPENS NEW SEASON WITH
“ONCE UPON A MATTRESS”

Theatre Atchison is excited to kick off its 2007-2008 season on September 14 with the musical version of the story of “The Princess and the Pea” entitled ONCE UPON A MATTRESS. The show became popular on Broadway in 1959 and made a star out of its leading actress, a then-unknown Carol Burnett. Carried by melodic yet hilarious songs, this spin on the familiar classic will have you looking at fairy tales in a whole new way. If you thought you knew the story of "The Princess and the Pea," you are in for a delightful surprise!

The cast is guided by Director Richard S. Bayse (Leavenworth) and Music Director Constance Peebles (Atchison). Technical Director is Eric Van Horn (Leavenworth). Cast members of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS hail from Atchison, St. Joseph, Leavenworth, Platte City, Valley Falls and Wetmore and include Rachael Bossow, David Benitez, Bev McConaughey, Carrie Mills, John Neiderhiser, Howie Kings, Walt Boyd, Gary Linhart, Eric Van Horn, Shelia Hicks, Linda Boyd, Melissa Gasper, Kristopher Benitez, Peter Murphy, Cassidy Wohlgemuth, Jordan Kruger, Harry Burgess, Jyll Chase, Sharon Chase, Sunni Evans and Amanda McDaniel. Debbie Hunsaker (Highland) serves as Stage Manager. Doris Turnbull (Rushville) is Accompanist. Sunni Evans (Valley Falls) is Choreographer. Glenda Grantham (Atchison) serves as Properties Coordinator. Connie Shalz (St. Joseph) serves as Costumer.

Performances of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS kick-off on Friday, September 14 with curtain time set for 8:00 p.m. Additional performances are planned for Fridays and Saturdays, September 15, 21 & 22 beginning at 8:00 p.m.; and Sundays, September 16 and 23 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Reservations are recommended but not required, and may be made by calling Theatre Atchison’s box office line at 913-367-SHOW (7469) or by stopping by the Theatre’s business office at 401 Santa Fe.
